Gate River Run Program

A TOUR OF THE GATE RIVER RUN COURSE MILE 1 The first mile is a straight shot down Bay Street into downtown. This five lane road offers plenty of room to get you off and running. The first turn comes in the heart of downtown at Newnan Street just before the mile mark. MILE 3 The third mile is on a new part of the course along Hendricks Avenue. A band and water station will greet you just before the three mile mark. This is the start of about 5 miles of the flatest part of the course. Get prepared the 5K timing mats are just ahead as your turn right into San Marco Square. MILE 5 From mile 4 to mile 5 you will cross Hendricks Ave., and make your way to Atlantic Blvd. A live band is featured in this mile. This section is crowded with spectators. Don’t go too fast. You’re just over half-way! MILE 4 This is a great mile! You will run through the picturesque streets of San Marco. Thousands of spectators will cheer you on through this very flat section of the course. Some of the nicest homes in Jacksonville are on River Road. Wendy’s water station and a live band will be located just before the 4 mile mark. MILE 2 The second mile of the course will take you over the St. John’s River on the Main Street Bridge and around RiverPlace Boulevard in front of RiverPlace Tower. This is the site of the Gate River Run Hall of Fame. Watch your footing on top of the bridge. The grating can catch your toe if you are not careful. The course will narrow as you exit the bridge.
